Robotics Team for Girls Seeks New Members
Girls of Steel is open to any high school girl in the Pittsburgh area who is interested in joining the team for the 2011-12 season.
The Girls of Steel, a team of young women that will compete in the annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, will conduct an information session for high school girls in the Pittsburgh area who are interested in joining the team for the 2011-12 season.
The open house, which also welcomes family members, friends and potential sponsors, will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, in Room 2109 of the Gates and Hillman centers on the Carnegie Mellon University campus in Oakland. The Field Robotics Center, part of Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute, sponsors Girls of Steel.
Last season was the first for the all-girls team. The Girls of Steel won All-Star Rookie awards at regional competitions in Pittsburgh and Washington, DC, and competed at the international FIRST Championship in St. Louis.

Those attending the open house will find out what it’s like to be a team member and the many benefits of participating. There will be robot demonstrations and exhibits.
