Seneca Valley Hires Sewickley Resident as New Acting Assistant Principal

Another familiar face is taking over an administrative position within the Seneca Valley School District.

On Jan. 14, the school board approved hiring teacher Christin Jamery, a Sewickley resident, as acting assistant principal for the Rowan and Connoquenessing Valley elementary schools.

She replaces of Rowan after Dr. John Giancola left the position in December to take a job as an English as a Second Language supervisor with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

Monday marked Jamery’s first day in her new role.

Jamery has worked in the Seneca Valley School District since 2007, first as a kindergarten teacher at Evans City Elementary and most recently as a first grade teacher at Rowan.

She recently completed an administrative internship at Rowan where she analyzed data and assisted in making instructional decisions based on students’ educational needs, a statement from the district said. She also completed a school improvement project focusing on improving reading comprehension and PSSA scores in reading.

In addition to focus group meetings for teachers, Jamery helped build a leveled literacy library where teacher borrow sets of leveled books for guided reading groups, the district said.

During her time at Seneca, she has also served as an Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Core Team representative, a math tasks committee first grade representative, a member of the Seneca Valley Foundation’s Board of Trustees, vice president of the Autism Opportunities Network, Inc., and as a member of the planning committee for the Walk for Autism Research, Pittsburgh.

Jamery graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in rhetoric and communication from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to her teacher certification, she also is certified in special education and is completing her master’s degree with an anticipated completion date of August 2013.

District spokeswoman Linda Andreassi said Jamery would be paid her current teacher salary, plus an hour’s extra work per day, if needed, in her new position.
