Sewickley Academy Kicks Off Reunion Weekend

A series of skills clinics on Saturday are open to the community.

Sewickley Academy was presented a resolution Friday commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Senior School.  

Sen. Matt Smith made the presentation during a school assembly. 

Special Reunion Weekend festivities also kicked off Friday, when Sewickley Academy welcomed two alumnae from the Class of 2000 into the Sports Hall of Fame. 

Gloria Lozano and Sarah Grenert-Funk were inducted Friday morning, Oct. 11 during an assembly with students in fourth to 12th grades.

Both Lozano and Grenert-Funk were members of the 1999 WPIAL girls’ soccer championship team and the 1999 and 2000 MSLA girls’ lacrosse championship teams. They both earned conference, state, and national recognition for their achievements in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse during their high school athletic careers.

According to Sewickley Academy, Lozano was recognized as the Best All-Around Female Athlete at the academy in 2000. She went on to play for the top ranked Division I women’s lacrosse team at Georgetown University where she was one of the most successful midfielders in university history.

Grenert-Funk also pursued collegiate success at Middlebury College where she was a member of the NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse championship teams in 2002 and 2004. 

As part of Reunion Weekend festivities, Lozano and Grenert-Funk will lead a series of skills clinics for Sewickley-area girls’ lacrosse players at Sewickley Academy from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 12. All clinics are open to the community.
