Sewickley Academy Student Collects Items for Deployed Military Members

Help Moon Township-area military members deployed in Afghanistan.

Sewickley Academy and Moon Area High School students are collecting items to be sent to local military members deployed in Afghanistan. 

Sewickley Academy student Jack Matten and Moon student John Bal are soliciting donations for care packages, which will be shipped to the Moon Township's 303rd Army Reserve Unit, based at McGarity Reserve Center off University Boulevard. 

The students hope to gather toiletries and basic comfort items for the unit. In addition, they seek to raise $1,000 to pay for shipping costs. 

Collection sites are located at: 

  • St. James Parish in Sewickley
  • The Moon Township Public Library on Beaver Grade Road
  • The Moon Township Volunteer Firemen Fish Fry at the Public Safety Building. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Beef Jerky 
  • Drink Mixes 
  • Breath Mints 
  • Playing Cards 
  • Books-paperbacks 
  • Magazines 
  • Puzzle Books 
  • Lip Balm 
  • Lotion 
  • Vaseline 
  • Greeting Cards 
  • Shoe insoles 
  • Chewing Gum 
  • Individual packaged Oreos, crackers, chips (nothing that will melt in hot temperatures) 
  • Cash Donations (to help with the cost of mailing).
