Sewickley Academy Welcomes New Director of Advancement

Melinda Miller begins Aug. 20 at Sewickley Academy.

When students begin classes early next month, they will be in the company of a new director of advancement.

Beginning Aug. 20, Melinda Miller will be joining 's administration team as the school’s new director of advancement.

Miller called it a privilege to join the academy.

“I’ve always had tremendous respect for , as it is truly a premier independent school, offering an amazing depth and breadth of education for students," Miller said. "It’s a profound privilege to be joining the advancement team, especially as the school approaches its 175th Anniversary.”

As the director of advancement, Miller's job entails leading the school’s advancement efforts, which include development and fundraising, communications and marketing, special events and alumni relations.

A seasoned advancement professional, Miller has worked as the senior director of marketing and communications at Grove City College and as the director of communications at Shady Side Academy, according to the academy.

Her experience includes supporting the development of Grove City’s recent $90 million capital campaign, as well as grant-writing, according to school officials.

Head of School Kolia O’Connor said Miller is hardworking and devoted. 

“With experience both in independent schools and at the university level, Melinda brings to her new position a wealth of knowledge and an understanding of educational culture,” O’Connor said. “References describe her as intensely ethical and passionately hard working, remarking that Melinda has devoted herself to making a difference in the lives of others through her support of the organization’s mission.”

Miller is a graduate of SUNY Albany where she received a bachelor’s in philosophy. She also earned a master’s in philosophy from Boston College.

Founded in 1838, Sewickley Academy enrolls 800 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
