Sewickley Resident Takes New Role as Ambridge Superintendent

Dr. Cynthia R. Zurchin begins effective July 1.

A Sewickley resident and assistant superintendent of the Moon Area School District is leaving to take on a new role.

Dr. Cynthia R. Zurchin has been elected as the new superintendent of schools in the Ambridge Area School District, effective July 1. 

The school board approved a four-year contract with Zurchin and a $135,000 annual salary at the March 20 meeting. She replaces Dr. Erwin Weischedel who served as Ambridge's superintendent for the past five years.

Zurchin received her bachelor's degree in education, masters in education and doctorate in education from Duquesne University.

Before becoming assistant superintendent in Moon, she previously served in teaching and administrative capacities in the Pittsburgh Public Schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

She also has experience coaching principals across the nation through a principals leadership institute to develop a focus on quality education for students. Zurchin is also an experienced urban and suburban educator, according to a news release.
