St. James to Begin Full-Day Pre-School Classes

The full-day program will provide extended math and reading skills, science, gym and more.

Next school year will bring something new to St. James School in Sewickley.

That's when the school plans to begin its full-day of pre-school for 4-year olds. The pre-school program offers developmental instruction in social, emotional, cognitive and motor development, according to school officials.  

Amy Joyce of St. James School said the full-day program should also help make an easier transition into full-day kindergarten.

Full-day pre-school will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tuition cost is $3,000 per year.  After-care will also be available for the students from 2 to 6 p.m. The cost is $4.25 per hour.   

A morning session for 4-year olds will also be offered from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $1,675. There is no aftercare program offered for the morning session.

St. James pre-school follows the curriculum from the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese and the PA Common Core Standards for Mathematics and Language Arts.   

The full-day program will also provide extended math/reading skills, science, gym, thematic art activities, library, computer and music. Students must be 4 years old by Aug. 31.   


Registrations open

St. James Catholic Parish in Sewickley is currently accepting registrations for the 2013-14 school year for Pre-School thru Eighth Grade.  There is a 3-Year-Old Half Day Pre-school program and Half Day and new Full Day 4-Year-Old Pre-school Program starting this fall.
