Viewfinder: Sewickley Academy Hosts Day of Service

Sewickley Academy students, faculty, staff and administration volunteered with various service organizations to make a positive impact on issues regarding the environment, education, social justice, hunger and poverty.

Sewickley Academy recently held its second annual Day of Service , a full school day committed to service projects both on and off campus.

Friday's student-led event demonstrated Sewickley Academy’s commitment to the service of a greater good. 

Members of the Students in Action team worked with community partners, school administrators, and faculty to plan the Day of Service.

In addition to on-campus projects, Sewickley Academy students, faculty, staff, and administration volunteered with various service organizations to make a positive impact on issues regarding the environment, education, social justice, hunger and poverty.  

On campus service projects included work in Sewickley Academy’s Secret Garden off of Hazel Lane, a “Hugs for Veterans” project in Early Childhood, workshops with the Homeless Children’s Education Fund to support local homeless children, and packing donated back-packs with school supplies for middle school students enrolled in the Summerbridge Pittsburgh program.

Projects off campus included service work with the following organizations: Amachi, the American Chestnut Society, Bethlehem Haven, East End Cooperative Ministries, Fern Hollow Nature Center, Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Gwen’s Girls, Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, the Sisters of St. Joseph, Villa St. Joseph, World Vision, Life’sWork of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Northside Coalition for Fair Housing.
