West Penn Allegheny Health System’s eighth annual Big Blue Quest, a fun walk and run that benefits colon and rectal cancer awareness and research, is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at North Park.
All proceeds from the 5K Run/2K Fun Walk will benefit the WPAHS Center for Colon and Rectal Surgery. The Big Blue Quest raises awareness that colon and rectal cancers are “preventable, treatable and beatable.”
Co-chairs Donald Moorman, MD, System Chair, Department of Surgery, and Paul Lebovitz, MD, System Chair, Division of Gastroenterology and Director, Allegheny Center for Digestive Health, invite participants to walk alongside colorectal cancer survivors, their friends and families, and learn about the prevention of this disease.
The day begins in the South Ridge (pool area) of North Park, with registration at 8 a.m. The 5K run begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 2K fun walk at 9:45 a.m. An awards ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. with raffles and drawings to follow.
Competitive runners can register with Runner’s High for a chance to earn medals in a variety of categories for all ages. Froggy Radio will provide entertainment and Bob Pompeani, KDKA Sports Anchor, will emcee the day’s events.
Visit www.BigBlueQuest.com to register yourself ($25 by April 3), your family ($75 for a family of five) or your team. Registrations sent after April 3 will be $30 apiece.
The new web site also automatically lets you set up your own donation site for free. Let your friends, family and acquaintances know via email or even by Facebook that you are on a quest to fight colorectal cancer. Donations can be made directly to your donation site.
