Five Places to Watch the Final Four

Not everyone has tickets to the NCAA basketball semifinals. Patch suggests local spots to catch the action.

The Final Four is upon us, and even though local favorite Pitt won’t be competing, it’s time to sit back and enjoy high-energy college basketball at its finest.

Sewickley Patch recommends five places to catch the games, grab a bite to eat and enjoy some drinks.

1.  Mike’s Place

Mike’s Place in Leetsdale has just installed a new surround-sound system to accompany its big-screen TV, so sneaker squeaks and blocked shots might make you feel like you’re sitting courtside. Mike’s Place will play host to a fundraiser for Judge Robert Ford on Saturday, so we recommend viewing the Championship Game here on Monday, which is 25-cent wings night. Tommie Maruca (Mike’s mom, and head chef) says Mike’s Place “has the best burgers this side of the tracks.”

2.

Just over the Ohio River in Crescent Township, Walker’s Bar & Grill boasts 75 microbrews, with new beers arriving weekly. Walker’s will be open for both games on Saturday, offering food from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., plenty of time for both food and basketball.

3.

Pizza Roma, the Sewickley go-to place for sports watching, will have $1 draft beer on Saturday. Bar manager Amanda Glasser says there will be lots of giveaways during the game. On Sunday, during the Women’s NCAA Final Four, $4 Bloody Marys will be offered. And for Monday’s men’s championship game, free pizza will be provided from 8-10 p.m.; pitchers of beer will be $5.

4.

Marroni’s Lounge will have specials on food all through this weekend of NCAA basketball. Saturday is Maronni’s special taco night, Sunday is 35-cent wing night, and Monday’s special is gyros. Besides food, Maronni’s features big screen TVs, darts, a pool table and domestic and imported beers.

5.

If you’re looking for an experience other than a sports bar, Sewickley Hotel is a great local choice. The restaurant has three flat-screen TVs. Sewickley Hotel has a full-service bar and 12 beers on tap. The kitchen will be open till 10 p.m. on Saturday and Monday, serving its blend of American Cuisine with a French influence.

All men’s games will be broadcast on CBS.

The Men’s Final Four: VCU vs. Butler at 6:09 p.m. Saturday. Kentucky vs. U Conn at 8:49 p.m. Saturday. The  championship game will be at 9 p.m. Monday.

Women's games will be broadcast on ESPN.
