The Quaker Valley boys soccer team is scheduled to participate in the annual FNB East-West Soccer Classic at Highmark Stadium.
This year, Quaker Valley will represent the West along with teams from Mt. Lebanon and first-time classic participant Upper St. Clair, current defending AAA state champion.
The East will be represented by teams from Exeter, Fleetwood and Wilson High Schools.
The FNB East-West Soccer Classic will be held on Friday, Aug. 30 and Saturday, Aug. 31 and showcases competition among the top boys’ high school teams from Eastern and Western Pennsylvania.
The Aug. 30 headline match between Upper St. Clair and Wilson is essentially a rematch of the 2012 AAA state final.
For 20 consecutive years, the East-West Classic has been recognized as one of the premier high school tournaments in the state.
This year’s six-team field consists of some of the most decorated high school programs in Pennsylvania boys’ soccer history, representing a total combined 27 state final competitions and 14 state championships.
First National Bank is sponsoring this year’s East-West Classic at Highmark Stadium, one of the top soccer venues in the country. Admission is free.
“The players, coaches, schools and supporters are extremely grateful to First National Bank for this opportunity," Gene Klein, head coach for Quaker Valley High School, said in a news release. "We are all very excited to play in a professional environment and the home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.”
