QV sprints to seventh straight victory

In lucky number seven, the Quaker Valley boys basketball team won 62-33 over Aliquippa Friday night.

The boys basketball team got off to one of its fastest starts in recent years and cruised to a 62-33 Section 6-AA victory over Aliquippa Friday night at the Quaker Valley gym.

The Quakers started the game on a 22-1 run, and piled up a 34-9 halftime lead.

, which continues to sprint upward in many regional polls, won its seventh straight game to move to 4-1 in section play and 10-1 overall.

Quaker Valley forced 30 Aliquippa turnovers, and led by as many as 35 points in the third quarter.

Quaker Valley coach Mike Mastroianni used the opportunity to give substantial playing minutes to his backups and role players.

Senior guard Ben Stevenson knocked down four 3-point shots and led Quaker Valley with 22 points, and junior guard R.J. West added 11 points.

Quaker Valley’s defense did not allow any Aliquippa player to reach double-digits in scoring.

Aliquippa fell to 2-3 in section play and 4-7 overall.

After 11 games, Quaker Valley is giving up an average of 41.8 points per game, while scoring an average of 60.7 points per game.

Quaker Valley meets Bishop Canevin in an exhibition game at 12:30 p.m. today at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Sto-Rox High School.
