Everything You Need to Know About Sewickley's Memorial Day Celebration

The 121st annual parade will be followed by a program at Wolcott Park and a service at the Sewickley Cemetery.

's 121st annual  parade begins at 10 a.m. today.

The parade route starts at Frederick Avenue and Broad Street, continues onto Thorn Street, to Grant Street and onto Beaver Street before ending at Thorn and Chestnut streets.

Roads on the parade route will be closed approximately one hour before the parade begins. No parking will be permitted on streets along the parade route from 6 a.m. to noon today to accomodate the parade. Port Authority buses will be detoured during the parade.

Parade participants include local police and firefighters, politicians, veterans groups, scouting troops, and the marching band.

Be on the look out for Parade Marshall Bruce Myers, U.S. Marine Corps, World War II and Honorary Parade Marshall Dr. John Moyer, U.S. Army, WWII.

Be sure to also watch the Air Force Reserve Command as it flies over in a salute to the parade.   

Immediately following the paarade, a memorial service will take place in Wolcott Park. 

Right after the Wolcott Park program will be a ceremony at the Sewickley Cemetery.  Eighth grader Kyle Hrabovsky will recite General Logan's Order. Brooke Stanley will follow with the Gettysburg Address.

Glenn Meakem is the keynote speaker for both programs. Meakem served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, volunteering and serving as combat engineer platoon leader in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Transportation from Wolcott Park to the cemetery is available and is being provided by the  School District.
