Fundraisers Benefit Children and Youth in Allegheny County

Candidates' comedy and Rusted Root music help a good cause.

In August, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services will present Candidates’ Comedy Night and the Allegheny County Music Festival, the two annual fundraisers for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund.

The festival fund provides eligible children with life-enriching items and opportunities not otherwise available through government funding. It is totally dependent upon the generosity of county residents.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, Candidates’ Comedy Night, Thursday, Aug. 16, spotlights the comedic talents of candidates running for political office in the November general election. It happens at Pittsburgh Improv at the Waterfront in Homestead. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30. Tickets are for sections of eight seats at the following levels: gold seating, $750 donation, and silver seating, $500 donation. Sections may be reserved by calling the DHS Event line at 412-350-3428.

The 13th annual Allegheny County Music Festival, featuring Pittsburgh-based Rusted Root, Sunday, Aug. 26, is at the amphitheater in Hartwood Acres Park. Opening bands will begin at 5 p.m., and Rusted Root will take the stage at 7:30.

The suggested donation is $20 per car. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and arrive early to stake out their area on the lawn.
