Why Go: Preschoolers can take part in these hands-on activities to keep learning throughout the summer season. Go to SweetwaterArtCenter.org for more information on the workshops.

What: Annual Ohio River Sweep

When/Where: Saturday, June 16, along the Ohio River. Meet at the boat launch on Petrun Road in Leetsdale or at the boat launch on East Beaver Street in Glenfield.

Why Go: People of all ages are invited to participate in the annual cleanup for the Ohio River and its tributaries, which brings thousands of volunteers to the riverbanks to collect tons of trash and debris from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Ill. Volunteers receive a T-shirt. Trash bags and drinks provided.

Admission: Free. 

 

What: Anthrocon 2012: Pittsburgh's Furries Convention

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, June 15; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 16; and 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 17 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Why Go: This year's theme "A Midsummer Night's Dream," kicked off Thursday and runs to Sunday, June 17 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Don't miss the largest anthropomorphics convention in the world, or in other words "the furries are here!" Programs include animation, costume-building and acting.

Admission: $30 per day or $50 for Thursday to Sunday.

 

What: Summer Music Series: Cadillac Club

When/Where: 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 15 at Wolcott Park in Sewickley.

Why Go: Sweetwater Art Center presents the first night of the Summer Music Series with Cadillac Club, a 60s era soul jazz groove. Bring a chair or a blanket to enjoy the weather and live music.  

Admission: Free.

 

What: Annual Family 5K for Fields and 1.5 Mile Family Fun Walk

When/Where: Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at War Memorial Park in Sewickley.

Why Go: Join the Quaker Valley Recreation Association and race, jog or walk to raise support and community awareness for the Legacy Fields at Bouchard Family Park  We hope to see you there!

Admission: $20 pre-register; $30 day of race; $10 additional person.

 

When/Where: 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the Carnegie Science Center.

Why Go: Rock out at a special opening party featuring guitars from Sewickley Heights resident Rich Engler's private collection. The show features an all-star acoustic jam performance by Joe Grushecky, Billy Price and Rob James of The Clarks and Rick Witkowski of BE Taylor Group.
