Rather than a race around the world, Sam Capezzuto, director of the nature center, said the event on Saturday, June 2 will highlight local green spaces in the Sewickley Valley sending teams racing to eight local parks.

"Our main reason for having the race was to highlight all of the wonderful parks in the area before summer started, to encourage families to get outside this summer and enjoy all the we have," Capezzuto said.

Teams can consist of children and adults, as many who can fit into one car. Each team, or car load, will be given clues to direct them to a . Once there they will have to complete a challenge such as building a small bridge or imitating a bee. Do it correctly and you'll earn the clue for the next location.

But this wouldn't be an "Amazing Race" without bonus challenges and a few other twists.

Capezzuto said some of the challenges are based on activities the nature center does with students during its programs.

"At one park we are doing work that is needed," Capezzuto said.

All ages are welcome, no physical ability is needed, and no running is necessary.

The team with the best overall time wins, but there will be plenty of other awards too, she said. The race ends at Fern Hollow with an awards ceremony and ice cream provided by .

Teams are invited to bring their own picnic dinner and linger on the grounds to watch the best sunset in the Valley.

"It is going to be a lot of fun," Capezzuto said.
