Patch Editor Speaks to Local Girl Scouts at 20th Annual Camp

The Glen Oaks Girl Scouts hosted Sewickley Patch on Thursday as part of their efforts to receive their government badges.

The girls in fourth and fifth grades were encouraged to write letters to the editor and ask Patch editor Larissa Dudkiewicz questions about journalism and news reporting.

Barbara Cooley Thaw, scout leader, said this is the 20th annual camp with the theme of "Pennsylvania Pride." The camp is being held at Walker Park in Edgeworth.

Sylvia McGaughey, junior troop leader, said daily activities are tailored toward the theme so that scouts can earn their badges. The girls will have earned three badges at the conclusion of camp.

In keeping with the theme, the scouts enjoyed a lunch of Isaly's chip chopped ham and banana splits with Hershey's syrup.

Other speakers this week included Sarah Heres, vice president Quaker Valley School Board.
