Rare Sight: A Steam Engine Rolls Through the Sewickley Valley

In celebration of Norfolk Southern's 30th anniversary, the railroad has partnered with the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society to operate a series of special steam-powered excursions across the northern routes of the rail system.

On Saturday, the No. 765 steam engine moved along the Ohio River through the going 18 miles each way from the Conway Yard to , where it turned around. Today, the runs continue, according to a schedule.  

The 1944-built, 400-ton attraction is one of the last mainline steam locomotives operating in the world, according to the museum and historical society.

The special passenger trains are hosting Norfolk Southern employees and their families. No public rides are available, but the public has been taking part in watching.

Groups of people gathered Saturday and Sunday at the , along the track at the and the .

On Monday, the train will deadhead from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg to continue the celebration.
