Unhappily Ever After: Bride Accused of Gunning Down Niece on Wedding Night

Police believe alcohol played a role in wedding night shooting near Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH — There would be no honeymoon for Jeremy Harvan and his bride, Christina George-Harvan.

Instead, George-Harvan spent their wedding night in jail after police said she shot her niece, 23-year-old Katelyn Francis, to death in the parking lot of Jimmy K's Bar in New Brighton, just north of Pittsburgh, according to police.

WTAE reported that the shooting happened during an argument over who would be a designated driver. Police told the TV station they believe alcohol played a role in the shooting.

George-Harvan appeared before a judge on May 2 and was held without bail, charged with one count of homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment, UPI reported.

WTAE TV in Pittsburgh reported that George-Harvan's attorney said the shooting was an accident. The lawyer, J. Lauson Cashdollar, said the bride was trying to move the gun when it went off and is "distraught" over the shooting.
