Carnival for the Cure Aims to Raise Money and Awareness For the Fight Against Cancer

The event is planned for 7-9 p.m. March 9 at Edgeworth Elementary School.

Get ready for some fun and games while raising awareness and money for the fight against cancer.

Carnival for a Cure on March 9 will be the opening act leading to the eighth annual Quaker Valley Relay for Life in June.

 The public is invited to attend the carnival from 7 to 9 p.m. at .

The event for children and families promises a wide array of activities including games, music, crafts and food.

Terri Tunick, publicity chairwoman, said the first 75 families to mention the word “hope” will receive a door prize.

A donation of $5 per family is requested, and tickets for additional activities will be sold at the door. Luminary candles will be available for purchase at $10 each in memory or in honor of someone. The luminary candles will be lit when darkness falls on June 23 at the high school track.

“All money will go to the eighth annual Quaker Valley Relay for Life,” said Tunick, a former children’s transplant educator for seven years at UPMC Montefiore.

Tunick said she is excited about plans for this year’s relay, which will be June 23-24 at the Quaker Valley High School stadium. Relay is the American Cancer Society's signature event where teams gather to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer.

Reservations are being taken for an event at the with head Chef Martin Thomas.

“Cooking for a Cure” will take place from 6-10 p.m. April 21. Guests will be treated to a Mediterranean-style dinner and will have the chance to learn healthy cooking techniques. Cost is $75 plus a cash bar. Seating is limited.
