Memorial Ride Keeps A Legacy Alive

Motorcyclists turn out Saturday for the Buddy Matthews Memorial Ride & Benefit for Autism.

Together on one bike, Linda Voshall and her late son's best friend Jim Neal led a pack of motorcycle riders on an 82-mile trek through Beaver, Butler and Allegheny counties.

Voshall organized the memorial ride at the in memory of her late son Buddy Matthews, who died nearly two years ago on Aug. 22, 2009 in a motorcycle crash.

She estimates 80 motorcyclists particpated in Saturday's ride.

All proceeds go to the to help support children with autism and programs for them.

The 10-year-old son of Buddy Matthews and his wife, Tricia, has autism. also started a poker run in 2008 in memory of his friend, Eric Barto, who was killed in a 2006 motorcycle accident. He also helped organize the Eric Barto Memorial Foundation.

This year, after the group decided they would not have the memorial ride, Voshall stepped in. 

Tricia Matthews said her family would like to set up a new foundation in Buddy's memory to support autistic kids -- a cause that was important to her husband.

In addition to the memorial ride, food, music, raffles, auctions and entertainment also filled the day.
