Shane Conlan Golf Classic Benefits Heritage Valley Sewickley Foundation

The inaugural tournament featured special celebrity golfer Carol Semple Thompson.

The inaugural Shane Conlan Golf Classic brought in more than $45,000 earlier this month for the .

The new Golf Classic took place May 14 at in Franklin Park and included 27 foursomes participating in a scramble-format tournament, a silent auction and an awards dinner.

“The tournament was a success and I can’t wait for next year,” Conlan said in a news release.

A former linebacker, Shane Conlan won two national championships with Penn State University and played in the NFL from 1987-1995 with the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams. 

During his NFL career, Conlan was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, a three-time All Pro and played in three Super Bowls.

Today, he is a vice president with Esmark and has been instrumental in developing the  to be located just off Route 65 and Hazel Lane in Edgeworth. 

The tournament was supported by many community members and area businesses, including top sponsor Esmark and featured special celebrity golfer . 

"I was approached by a friend, Dr. Shelly McQuone, to be involved with the tournament and I was happy to participate,” Conlan said in a news release.  “I wanted to do what I could to help raise money for Heritage Valley Sewickley, our community hospital, which has been a resource to my family, friends and neighbors."

Tournament committee members included Shane and his wife Caroline, Jeff Fecko, Dr. McQuone, Lynn Vescio, Missy Walls and Tracy Yates.

Shane, his wife Caroline and their four children have lived in for the past 16 years.
