5 Things to Know this Week: Spaghetti Dinner, 'Ghosts of the Third Reich,' & Daffodil Planting

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Columbus Day

Today, Oct. 14 is Columbus Day. School is closed for Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy students. St. James is open. County offices, courts, and some banks are closed, while municipal offices are open. 

2. "Ghosts of the Third Reich" 

Classrooms Without Borders and Sewickley Academy are partnering to present "Ghosts of the Third Reich" on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Rea Auditorium. The film is free and open to the public. Click here for details

3. Daffodil Planting

Meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Wolcott Park, and join the Sewickley Civic Garden Council in planting of 50 daffodil bulbs at a variety of locations. Click here for details. 

4. Sewickley Computer & Electronic Recycling

Join Commonwealth Computer Recycling for a day of recycling at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at 500 Thorn St., Sewickley.  Computers, laptops, cell phones and their peripherals will be recycled at no cost. 

5. Spaghetti Dinner for QV Girls Basketball

The Quaker Valley High School girl’s basketball team is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Leetsdale VFW, 515 Beaver St., Leetsdale. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors (70+) and children (3-12). The event includes a raffle and bake sale. Proceeds benefit QV girls basketball and the Leetsdale VFW.
