5 Things to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around town this week.

1. Council Meetings

Sewickley Council will holds its committee of the whole meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at the Sewickley municipal building. Leetsdale Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a workshop meeting in council chambers at the Leetsdale borough building. The regular meeting is Thursday, July 11.


2. Sewickley Night Market

Get ready for the second in a series of planned night-time shopping events under the stars this summer. Stroll along Beaver Street, browse merchandise from Sewickley businesses and enjoy light music.

3. Your Inner Super Hero

Are you a Catwoman or a Wolverine? Find out more about your inner superhero.  Take a Superhero personality test at the Sewickley Public Library, figure out what your special abilities are and create a superhero persona that is all you. Registration is required. Part of Beneath the Surface: Teen Summer Reading 2013 in the Teen Department. 


4. Learn to Make Mini Cakes

Love baking? Join Sweetwater Center for the Arts for an evening of cake making minis. Students will create mini masterpieces and experiment with fruity toppings and fillings that are perfect for a picnic or a light snack in the summertime. Materials fee is included in the tuition. Member tuition: $50, Non-member tuition: $65. Ages 18 and up.

5. The New Art of Wen Gao

International Images will host an opening reception for The New Art of Wen Gao from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 12. The exhibit features 30 original works by artist Wen Gao, whose focus is currently a modified post impressionistic style mainly using oil on canvas.
