Parking Garage Meeting, Harvest Festival, Sewick's Chicks Highlight This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Parking Garage Informational Meeting

Village Green Partners is hosting a public informational session at Sweetwater Center for the Arts from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday to talk about proposed plans for a new parking garage and parking meter system in Sewickley. The public is invited to attend this open forum to learn more about the plan. The borough manager and council members will be on hand to answer questions. 

2. Harvest Festival

The Quaker Valley Rotary and Kiwanis Club of Sewickley will present the 23rd annual Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 on Broad and Thorn streets in Sewickley. Churches, businesses and organizations are also planning events in conjunction with the event. 

3. Day on the Lawn

The Day on the Lawn uses virtually every room in the church as well as the grounds to sell everything from jewelry to sporting goods to computers. The event also includes homemade baked and deli treats and kids' activities. All funds raised go to support a variety of local, regional, national and international missions

4. Soul Food at St. Matthews 

St. Matthews AME Zion Church at Walnut and Thorn streets will serve dinners from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. All dinners come with two homemade sides of mac and cheese, collard greens, red beans and rice, potato salad and dessert of sweet potato pie or pound cake. Rib dinners are $9, chicken wing dinners are $8. Whole slabs are $20 and half slabs are $11. Call 412-741-4239.

5. Book Lover's Book Sale

The Friends of Sewickley Public Library is hosting its annual "Book Lover's Book Sale" for all ages from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Sewickley Public Library. 

6. Sewick's Chicks

Tour a dozen chicken coops in the Sewickley area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. Tickets are available at Penguin Bookshop, 420 Beaver St., Sewickley. Click here for more information
