Sewickley Borough was officially incorporated in 1853, though the first written mention of Sewickley, an Indian word forMore "Sweet Water," was recorded on December 31, 1767. Sewickley Borough Manager Kevin Flannery's office is on the second floor, where council chambers are also located. The historical borough building was finished in 1905 and later remodeled in 1982.

Sewickley Heights' architecture is noteworthy for retaining many structures from its early history; it is now the only borough in Pennsylvania designated entirely as a historic district. Sewickley Heights is about 10 miles west of Pittsburgh with easy access to Interstate 79 and the Pittsburgh International Airport. A council of seven elected council members oversee the borough's business. Council chambers are located on the first floor of the Borough Hall at the Allegheny Country Club, 238 Country Club Road.
