The devastating tornado that rocked Oklahoma on Monday leaves many in the Sewickley area wondering how to help. Police in Sewickley, Leetsdale, Edgeworth and other surrounding communities will be out for Memorial Day weekend.
The West Hills DUI Task Force will be conducting enforcement operations over Memorial Day weekend. These operations will be in the form of sobriety checkpoints and/or roving DUI patrols between May 24 and 26. Taking part in the operations are officers from Edgeworth, Leetsdale and Sewickley boroughs. Also part of the effort are officers from Avalon, Bellevue, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Edgeworth, Leetsdale and Sewickley boroughs; and Moon, Robinson, Crescent, Findlay, Kennedy, North Fayette, Ohio and Stowe townships. PennDOT crews will begin a $6.3 million project to improve Route 65, or Ohio River Boulevard, starting on Monday, May 20. Beginning at 8 p.m., southbound traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes of Route 65 from Camp Horne Road in Emsworth to Locust Street in Avalon. The House voted unanimously this week in support of a measure to launch a detailed study of the potential impacts of merging the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. House Resolution 129 calls on the non-partisan Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) to study the financial feasibility, impact, costs and savings that may be realized by combining the agencies. It also calls on the LBFC to explore a range of options with regard to how to structure the state’s wildlife agency to best manage the wildlife and aquatic resources of the Commonwealth.
