For a Good 'Paws': Pet Lovers Unite at Sewickley Unleashed

The pet-friendly event draws big crowds, big smiles and of course, dogs.

The fourth annual Sewickley Unleashed brought out the crowds, the dogs, and plenty of smiles on Saturday in downtown Sewickley. A "fun" raiser for the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, the event featured a 5K run/walk, the annual pet parade and a showcase of adoptable pets.  There were also numerous pet-related vendors, including area rescue groups, pet sitters, information and merchandise. Glen Osborne Resident, Former School Director Seeks Seat on Quaker Valley School Board

Mary Ann Wagner is one of two candidates running for one seat in Region 3, which represents Aleppo, Edgeworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Glen Osborne, Sewickley Heights and Sewickley Hills.

Mary Ann Wagner, 71, of Glen Osborne, previously served for 12 years on the Quaker Valley School Board. She is currently serves on the district's Public Budget Committee, a group of about 25 to 30 local taxpayers. Wagner, who is retired, is a former sales representative for L'Oreal Paris and U.S. Steel. She was also a credit analyst for U.S. Steel. Her interests include antiques and she is a volunteer at Pittsburgh's Hidden Treasures held each year at Heinz History Center. She also enjoys playing Bridge. Allegheny County Announces Line-Up for 2013 Summer Concert Series

The concert series kicks off on Friday, May 31.

Allegheny County officials have announced the line-up for the 2013 Summer Concert Series.    The Pittsburgh CLO will kick off the concert series on Friday, May 31, with “A Gleeful Evening, Vol. 3” featuring Gene Kelly Award winners at the South Park Amphitheater. Pittsburgh Opera will begin the season on Sunday, June 2 at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater. Summer performances include Grammy Award winners Sarah Watkins, the Yellowjackets and Rickie Lee Jones at Hartwood Acres, as well as Grammy Award nominees Monty Alexander, Sixpence None the Richer and James Hunter at South Park. Two Sewickley Academy Athletes Receive 2013 WPIAL Scholar-Athlete Award

For the first time in school history, both Sewickley Academy candidates for the 2013 WPIAL Scholar-Athlete Award were selected as winners.

For the first time in school history, both Sewickley Academy candidates for the 2013 WPIAL Scholar-Athlete Award were selected as winners. Seniors Amy Kolor and Jordan Milo were selected out of 10 male and 10 female candidates who came from about 140 WPIAL high schools. According to Sewickley Academy, Amy received several awards at the end of her junior year, including highest honors, the English Award, and the Harvard Book Award. She was also a first-ballot selection to the Cum Laude Society.  She served as a captain for the girls soccer team and was a member of the first U.S. student delegation to visit Nepal and Sri Lanka after being accepted into the South Asia Youth Summit.  Jordan Milo is captain of three varsity sports – golf, …

Sewickley 2013 Spring Gallery Walk: Paintings, Photography, Sculptures and More

Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day allows employees to bring their own children to work and offer them experiences in their workplace.

The fourth Thursday of April is Take Your Child To Work Day, and lands on April 25 this year. This is the 20th anniversary of Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day—as it is officially called. Sewickley Soup Crawl Returns for St. Patrick's Day

Tickets to the second annual event are now on sale. Limited entries are also being accepted for Sewickley's 2013 "Best Souper Chef" contest.

Get ready for a food tasting journey. The Sewickley Soup Crawl returns on Saturday, March 16, when participants will have a chance to roam charming neighborhood retailers while tasting a range of signature homemade soups.  Alex DeLoia of Village Green Partners said the second annual event will again pair local restaurant cooks with various retailers in the downtown business district. The restaurants will serve their soups out of the retailers, DeLoia said. "Each attendant, when you register, will get a map with all of the soups labeled," DeLoia said.
