Sewickley Restaurant Reopens with New Name, Fresh Look

The former Sweetwater Grille, now known as 424 Walnut, returns today after being closed since August to undergo a transformation.

A popular Sewickley restaurant is back in business today, operating under a new name with new hours and a new menu.   The owner of "424 Walnut," formerly the Sweetwater Grille, said the restaurant will reopen its doors at 4 p.m. today, May 16. Customers were surprised when the restaurant closed last August, but Jimmy Zipparo, owner and head chef, said he wanted to concentrate on reorganizing, renovating and reopening with new beginnings. “It’s just a fresh start, you know, a new place,” Zipparo said. Returning lunch and dinner customers will notice the restaurant's name and logo has changed to reflect the 424 Walnut Street location. New art, décor and lighting help give the restaurant's atmosphere a warmer, inviting feel.  Zipparo …

My friend and I went to "424" last weekend. He had a cup of French onion soup, and I had a cup of spicy shrimp bisque. We both enjoyed the soups very much. The wine list is nice, and my chardonnay was served nice and cold. I am meeting friends for dinner there tomorrow evening - and hope the experience is as enjoyable. Best of luck to the "new" restaurant.   more ›

A Toast to Tapas: Lula Serves Up Small Bites and Good Conversation

Sewickley's newest restaurant focuses on American-inspired food and wine in the heart of the business district.

Lula serves appetizers on a small plate, offering diners a variety of familiar dishes at a modest price. Mouth-watering dinner plates range from seared scallops, spicy tuna tartar, a cheese plate or a petite filet of beef with fig sauce.   …

Moms Talk: Should U.S. Olympic Uniforms Be Made in China?

Patch columnist Nia Stanley thinks having the uniforms made here in the United States would have been a better idea.

I hope you don’t judge me, but shows like Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight are a natural extension of my news watching each evening.   I need to know whether or not Katie Holmes and Suri were able to make it to the grocery store now that Holmes has left Tom Cruise! Well, a recent hot topic on both news magazines seems to be the uniforms that Ralph Lauren has designed for American athletes to wear during the 2012 Opening Ceremony. Seems as if Uncle Ralph, known for his All-American, prepster styles, has gone off the deep end. I mean, he has really chosen an accessory so diabolical and loathsome, I can hardly stand to look at it. He has chosen a jaunty little red, white and blue BERET. The men’s uniforms come with a tie and slacks, …

With many Americans still unemployed, many think the U.S. Olympic Committee should have off-shored American jobs make uniforms for American athletes in China. What do you think? Should we burn or wear the uniforms made in China? Join the debate next Tuesday 24 in New York City: http://bit.ly/LYNXPM   more ›
