Other events remain on schedule for Saturday.
The snowy weather isn't just causing bad road conditions. Quaker Valley School District and Sewickley Academy have canceled all activities and athletics for Friday evening due to the inclement weather. Quaker Valley students had an early dismissal today. Students taking the SATs at North Allegheny tomorrow morning are asked to check the College Board website and the North Allegheny website in case of a cancelation. Quaker Valley also reminds high school students to monitor local news stations or the district website for cancellation information. The middle school Open House Celebration remains on schedule from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. The community is invited to tour the newly renovated school. The event includes student …

Season passes for Quaker Valley sports are available through the school district's athletics office. A season pass provides entry to all regular Quaker Valley home games for football as well as boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball. Season passes do not include admission to WPIAL or PIAA playoff games. The cost is $50 Quaker Valley residents 60 or older are eligible to receive a "Gold Card" entitling them to FREE general admission to all regular season home athletic events. In addition, Gold Card members will receive free or discounted admission to selected plays and musical productions, selected adult education classes and other identified district programs. Quaker Valley has named a well-known community figure as the coach for the high school girls varsity lacrosse team, according to Martha Smith, district spokeswoman. The team's new head coach is Nellie Kraus. Smith said Kraus is known to some in the community as a district parent and known to many as a coach from her years of working with Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy teams. “Her personal experience as an NCAA athlete combined with her education background and coaching experience make Ms. Kraus a great fit for this role on our staff," said Mike Mastroianni, director of athletics and actitathletics and Activities. The varsity boys team is victorious in a nail-biter season opener.
It was a muggy night in Frank Letteri Stadium as Quaker Valley played its season opener against the Cornell Raiders. There were turnovers, blocked punts, stripped balls and fumbles on both sides, but new head coach John Tortorea logged his first win when the Quakers emerged the victors in a hard-fought 27-26 battle. The end of the first quarter saw the Quakers behind 12-0, but QB Burke Moser was able to connect with Jordan Vescio and Joe Peduto in the second quarter to rally to a 20-12 lead at the half. A Raider touchdown in the third quarter narrowed that gap to 20-18, and another Raider touchdown and two point conversion six minutes into the fourth quarter saw Cornell pull ahead 26-20.
