WTAE is reporting that two people were killed and two others injured after a car skidded sideways into the path of another vehicle early today on Route 65 in Ben Avon. The Beaver County Times identified the deceased as 19-year-old David Michael Mooney and 22-year-old Christopher Michael Lantzy, both of New Brighton. Ohio Township Police Chief Norbert Miklos told WTAE one car carrying the two crossed into the other lane and into the path of another oncoming vehicle. Investigators believe speed, bald tires and wet roads played a factor. Two were killed and one injured in the first car. The driver of the second car had serious injuries. Sewickley police said the alleged rape occurred earlier this month.
Police received a report Feb. 11 of a sexual assault involving a teen who was raped by an 18-year-old man. Police were told the alleged assault occurred Feb. 9 at a bonfire somewhere in Sewickley. The matter has been turned over to Allegheny County Police detectives. Charges have not been filed. Sewickley police also responded to the following incidents. A driver is taken to Heritage Valley Sewickley following an early-morning crash along Route 65.
Sewickley Police Chief Jim Ersher said slick roads likely led to a one-vehicle crash early this morning on southbound Route 65, causing back-ups for motorists traveling the route. Ersher said one man was taken to Heritage Valley Sewickley following the crash. All lanes on the road have been reopened. The man lost control of his vehicle at about 6:40 a.m., the chief said. The car struck a utility pole and spun into the northbound lane, where it landed on its side. Ersher said the man's name was not immediately available, but the man was conscious and alert following the crash. The man had no passengers. Ohio Township police said 86-year-old Fred Degroot's vehicle sideswiped a Catepillar construction vehicle.
An 86-year-old Sewickley man was transported to Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital Monday after his car sideswiped a construction vehicle in Aleppo Township. Ohio Township police reported that the driver, Fred Degroot Jr., 86, of Sewickley, suffered minor injuries in the crash. The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. while Degroot's car traveled down the 900 block of Glen Mitchell Road in Aleppo. Police said a man operating a Catepillar pavement roller was also going down the road, traveling halfway on the berm and the road. Police said the roller did not have any lights on making it hard for Degroot to see it in the rainy conditions. Degroot's car sideswiped the roller and forced it into a hillside. A Sewickley woman was killed Sunday morning in a two-car crash that occurred about 10:30 a.m. in Ohio Township, according to Ohio Township police. Tess Raynovich, 20, of Sewickley was pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office. Results of an autopsy being performed today are not yet complete, ME officials said. Raynovich was a 2010 Quaker Valley High School graduate. A Robinson Township teen who obtained her driver's permit two weeks ago crashed the car she was driving into the side of a bank on Steubenville Pike while trying to park outside Monday afternoon, Robinson Township police said. Robinson Patrolman Noel Pilewski said no one was hurt when the car crashed through a window and wall into an office area of the First National Bank branch at 6298 Steubenville Pike. The bank remains closed, but employees said the drive-through window remains open for customers. A McKees Rocks woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a two-car crash on Route 65 that left her trapped inside her vehicle. Sewickley police reported that Marguerite Bailey was stopped at 9:30 a.m. on McKown Street in Glen Osborne, near the Critmore building, when she attempted to turn left toward Pittsburgh. Her car pulled into the path of Richelle Barrett's northbound car before the two collided. Police said Barrett of Pittsburgh hit the brakes right before the impact. Investigators are trying to identify the driver who fatally shot himself early Saturday morning after police pursued him into the parking lot of the Cranberry Commons shopping center. An Ambridge woman was taken by ambulance to Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital earlier today after a two-vehicle crash on Route 65 in Sewickley. Sewickley police said Chelsey L. Happ complained of back and neck injuries after her car collided with a sport utility vehicle driven by Joshua Mamaeff of Homestead. A Leet Township man is facing driving violations following a three-car crash today on Route 65 in Leetsdale. Leetsdale police cited Nathan Powers with summary offenses that included fraudulent use of plates, driving with an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance and driving without inspection. The crash happened at 11:44 a.m. in the southbound lanes of 65 after Michael Meerdo of Baden stopped to make a lefthand turn at Spencer Street. Police said Powers was waiting for Meerdo to turn when a car driven by Scott Stewart of Beaver struck Powers' car, causing a reaction that pushed Powers' car into Meerdo's vehicle. Wet weather may have played a factor, police said. No one was injured, police said.
