Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Allegheny County Council and other civic groups will host event.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Allegheny County Council will host a Sept. 11 flag retirement and remembrance ceremony at North Park's Flag Retirement Plaza at 7 p.m. tonight. The ceremony will include members of all branches of the military, veterans, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, Pine-Richland JROTC, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, according to a news advisory by Fitzgerald's office. The plaza is at the intersection of Ingomar Road and Babcock Boulevard.

Girl Scout Troop 50994 from Glen Oaks celebrated with a Silver Award Ceremony on April 20, 2012. This troop is comprised of 17 seventh graders in the Quaker Valley area. The Silver Award is the highest award earned by a Cadette Girl Scout. This award acknowledges achievements in leadership development, with community based actions having a sustainable element and incorporating personal growth. The first four requirements of the Girl Scout Silver Award helps girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills and make a commitment to self-improvement. First the girls had to complete two Studio-2B books, earn three Interest Projects Awards, spend 15 hours in a leadership role and explore careers. Then they were able to begin their…

District Judge Robert Ford has performed 94 ceremonies since 2005.
Wearing his black robe and clutching a book of vows, District Judge Robert Ford posed the traditional question and paused: "Speak now or forever hold your peace." Kaitlyn Moore and her soon-to-be husband Andrew Scott quickly scanned the small courtroom. Despite a few chuckles, the dearly beloveds who had gathered stayed quiet.
