Registration Open for Jeremiah's Place 5K Run, Walk at North Park

Jeremiah’s Place works to prevent child abuse and seeks to provide a relief nursery for children and families.

Later this month, teams and individuals will race to help provide a safe haven for children and families in the community. Registration is now open for the inaugural Jeremiah’s Place 5K Run/Walk and 5 Mile Race: “Where Prevention Meets the Pavement.” The race takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the North Park Boat House. Strollers are welcome. "We are planning to make this an annual event. We feel that it will be great way to bring our community together for an important cause to spread the word about how we can prevent child abuse and neglect in Pittsburgh," said Lauren Lorenzi, who is organizing the race with the help of other Jeremiah's Place board members. Police Trace Child Pornography to Kennedy Township Man

A 47-year-old man is charged with owning and sharing lewd images and videos of children, according to court records.

A Kennedy Township man is slated to face a preliminary hearing in Coraopolis on charges he stored pornographic videos and images of children on his computer.  Jeffrey Guzzo, 47, of Helen Street, is charged with disseminating child pornography, possession of child pornography and possession of obscene and other sexual materials, according to court records.  In a criminal complaint, Moon Police Officer Reginald Humbert wrote he was conducting a investigation in November into the dissemination of online child pornography. Humbert located an Internet protocol address, later identified as belonging to Guzzo, that was sharing pornographic material via the BitTorrent file sharing network.  Police were able to download images shared through the IP…

Franklin Park Couple to Stand Trial in Abuse Case Involving Adopted Children

Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Douglas Barbour, 33, and his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, appear at a preliminary hearing in Leetsdale District Court.

A Franklin Park couple has been ordered to stand trial after waiving a preliminary hearing today on charges of abusing and starving two children they adopted from Ethiopia nearly a year ago.  Prosecutors dropped two aggravated assault charges against Douglas Barbour, 33, who appeared in Leetsdale District Court alongside his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, of Cole Road for a preliminary hearing. Douglas Barbour, a Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General, has been suspended from his state job without pay since he and his wife were arrested Oct. 4. He'll stand trial on two counts each of simple assault, endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment.  Kristen Barbour will stand trial on one count of simple assault and two counts each …

Franklin Park Couple Face New Charges in Child-Abuse Case

Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Douglas Barbour and his wife, Kristen Barbour, remain free on bond in case involving two adopted children from Ethiopia.

A Franklin Park couple accused of physically abusing and starving two children they adopted from Ethiopia in March now face additional charges.  Prosecutors amended charges today against Douglas Barbour, 33, and his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, of Cole Road, at a preliminary hearing scheduled before District Judge Robert Ford in Leetsdale. As a result of the new charges, defense attorneys asked that the preliminary hearing for the couple again be postponed. A new court date is set for Jan. 18.  Among the new charges filed was an additional count of aggravated assault related to the Barbour's 6-year-old adopted son. Update: Franklin Park Couple Accused of Abusing Adopted Children Ask Judge for Visitation Rights

A Franklin Park couple accused of physically abusing and starving two children they adopted from Ethiopia in March will be permitted supervised visitation with their two biological children, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports. Douglas Barbour, 33, and his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, of Cole Road, Wexford, are charged with two counts each of endangering the welfare of children and one count each of aggravated assault. Douglas Barbour, a Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General, is also charged with simple assault, court documents show.   Barbour has been suspended from his state job without pay, Attorney General Linda Kelly said in a statement after the couple's arrest Oct. 4.
