Being Little in Sewickley Perfect for Living Big Later

Former Sewickley resident reflects back on growing up in the Valley.

I always did sympathize with George Bailey.  Frank Capra's creation, forever bemoaning being trapped in picturesque but stifling Bedford Falls, felt eerily familiar to my teenage self.  It wasn't until I was an adult that I could even watch It's a Wonderful Life; it just seemed too scary, a horror movie more than holiday heartwarmer. Cliché of clichés it may be for the small town-girl, but I grew up in Sewickley with one main goal: get myself out of Sewickley. Robyn - thanks for your article. I worked part-time, after school with my Dad at Connelly Motor Co., 616 Beaver Street - now an Italian restaurant. After graduation, I too left Sewickley for my first real job. That first opportunity popped-up in Canton, Ohio - population, 120,000.
