The following people were charged and scheduled for preliminary hearings April 23 at District Judge Robert Ford's office in Leetsdale: Held for Court Chuck Nacke, 55, of Franklin Park, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Franklin Park police reported officers received a report Feb. 5 that Nacke was trying to leave a bar on Brandt School Road and drive home while intoxicated. Police said officers found Nacke at home slouched over the driver's seat of his vehicle, which was parked in his garage. The vehicle was off, but was still mking a ticking sound from being driven. Police reported a blood-alcohol content of 0.239 percent. Waived Keith Stewart, 66, of Franklin Park, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. …

A group of teens attempted to steal signs Sunday afternoon from the magistrate district judge's yard, but they didn’t get far. Leetsdale police Patrolman William Dreyer said homeowner District Judge Robert Ford caught the four juveniles around 1:30 p.m. holding two signs from his front yard in the 700 block of Beaver Street. Dreyer said Ford called police and confronted the teens, two males and two females, who stuck around and waited for police to arrive. Two of the juveniles were from Ambridge, one from Leetsdale and one from Bell Acres, Dreyer said. He said the juveniles claimed they planned to stand on the corner and hold the signs up to traffic. Three people accused of stealing jewelry from a Sewickley Hills residence are scheduled to appear today in court on felony charges. Ohio Township police have charged Christopher Hatton, 18, of Pittsburgh, Justin Lively, 18, of Center Township, 21, of Freedom, and Amanda Salamone, with felony counts of receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. Lively is also charged with felony theft. Police said a Sewickley Hills resident called July 9 to report four pieces of her jewelry missing. Police said the jewelry was taken during the time frame that several people had come to the home to visit the victim’s son. Judge agrees to drop two felony counts against Zachary Clifton.
A 25-year-old man accused of having bomb-making materials, weapons and other items in his Leetsdale apartment waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Robert Ford. Zachary Clifton agreed to stand trial on misdemeanor counts of owning prohibited offensive weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia in exchange for having two felony counts dropped. Clifton had been charged with risking a catastrophe and possession of explosive or incendiary materials dropped. By dropping the felony charges, Clifton will be able to go to Allegheny County Mental Health Court, a specialty court that offers treatment to offenders without putting them into the system. Zachary Clifton, 25, is arraigned Friday on charges that include possession of explosives or incendiary materials and causing or risking a catastrophe.
A Leetsdale man was arraigned Friday on charges stemming from the discovery by Leetsdale police of more than 100 knives, bomb-making materials, drug paraphernalia and other items in his apartment. Police said they found the items—including one gallon of acetone and lacquer thinner, both used to make bombs—after responding over the weekend to a call about an attempted suicide overdose in the building where Clifton lived. The home's resident, Zachary Clifton, 25, was released from a hospital Friday and arraigned in court before District Judge Robert Ford. Charges were recently waived against a Pittsburgh man who tried to attack two police officers following a drunken-driving crash, police said. Sewickley police charged Paul Curtis, 24, of Pittsburgh, with two counts of aggravated assault, careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. Curtis will stand trial on the charges. According to a criminal complaint, police were called to a one-vehicle crash May 11 in the Green Street municipal parking lot. Police said Curtis's female passenger complained of head, neck and knee pain and was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Curtis said he was not injured, police said. Allegheny County detectives say Laura Kuzma, 25, of Raccoon Township, was involved in a February theft targeting a vacant home.
A Raccoon Township woman is accused of breaking into a Leetsdale home back in February and stealing copper piping the night before the house was to be sold. Laura Kuzma, 25, waived a single charge of burglary Tuesday to Allegheny County Court. District Judge Robert Ford modified Kuzma's $10,000 bond allowing her to be released from Allegheny County Jail on a promise to return for court. Allegheny County police were called Feb. 9 to investigate the burglary on Valley Lane after the crime was reported to the Leetsdale police department. A Cranberry Township man accused of possessing heroin and crack cocaine will stand trial. Allen Victor, 26, of Cranberry, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday on charges of possession of heroin, possession of crack-cocaine and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. Franklin Park police reported that officers on March 27 saw Victor's car on the Interstate 79 off ramp and checked his vehicle registration, which came back as being involved in several incidents. Police stopped Victor's car and found he had two active warrants for his arrest.
