National Weather Service Cancels Flood Warning, High Wind Warning

A flood advisory remains in effect for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh.

Lee Hendricks doesn't consider current conditions to be your typical trick-or-treating weather. “There’s been nothing normal about this storm,” said Hendricks, meterologist with the National Weather Service in Moon Township. Still, by all accounts, it appears Western Pennsylvania has escaped relatively unharmed by Hurricane Sandy. National Weather Service Issues Flood Advisory for Ohio River

The flood advisory is in addition to a flood watch in effect through Tuesday evening and a high wind warning in effect until noon Tuesday.

Commuters who use the Monongahela River Parking Wharf in Downtown Pittsburgh will need to be thinking about alternative plans. The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory lasting from Tuesday evening through Thursday afternoon for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh. Rising waters are expected to impact the river in Allegheny County starting this evening, eventually flooding the 10th Street Bypass and Wharf, the weather service said.   Blame it on the widespread heavy rains expected to blanket the region over the next 36 hours, with potential rainfall amounts ranging from 2.5 inches to 4.5 inches. Significant runoff is expected to cause the Monangahela River to rise as a result, according to the weather service.  The Ohio River at …

National Weather Service Issues Flood Advisory; Funnel Clouds Spotted

Strong showers will affect Allegheny, Butler, Armstrong, Indiana, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for central Allegheny County Thursday that is in effect until 7:45 p.m.  The weather service also stated funnel clouds have been reported, but did not state specifically where the spottings were. Flooding has been reported in Baldwin, Clarion and Wilkins townships, according to the National Weather Service. A flood advisory is in effect until 8:15 p.m. "At 6:02 p.m. showers and isolated thunderstorms with strong wind gusts were along a line from three miles south of Freeport to Monroeville, moving east at 20 mph," according to the weather service. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible with these lines of showers and heavy rain will pond quickly in poor drainage areas, NWS states…
