Channing Tatum Film Production Returns to Sewickley Heights

'Foxcatcher' crews returned over the weekend to shoot scenes for the Hollywood movie based on a true story.

Camera crews returned to a Sewickley Heights property over the weekend to shoot scenes for a Hollywood movie starring Channing Tatum. Sewickley Heights police Officer Sal Arena said the Foxcatcher shoot Sunday at Wilpen Hall on Blackburn Road involved a driving scene for the movie that included vehicles marked as Haverford Township police cars. The cruisers pull into the entrance of the property responding to a call, Arena said. Based on a true story, the film is about John du Pont (Steve Carell), a chemical fortune heir who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and went to prison for killing David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), a 1984 gold medal winning wrestler. Organic Farmer Catches ‘Acting Bug’ in Promised Land

Troy Bogdan of Bridgeville says he caught the “acting bug” after a back injury sidelined him from working on his Crawford County organic farm last April. He played an extra in the new movie "Promised Land" that hit theaters Friday.

Troy Bogdan, an organic farmer living in Bridgeville, says he caught the “acting bug” after a back injury sidelined him from working on his Crawford County farm last year. An audition for a role as an extra last May has snowballed into a flurry of acting parts in several movies filming around western Pennsylvania, including the major production of “Promised Land,” which opened in theaters Friday morning. “I’ve been a fan of movies all my life, but I never thought I would be working for them,” Bogdan said. “It’s a hobby and we’ll see where it goes. I don’t have any expectations of being a movie star, but maybe it can lead to part-time income to supplement the farm income. I’ll do it as long as I’m still having fun.” The work started after …

A word of warning: Our son was an extra in Lifeguard, which filmed in Sewickley this past summer. He worked 5-6 evenings, sometimes all night until 5am (8-10 hours at a time) and was to be paid minimum wage. To date he's received one check for about $49 which was returned due to insufficient funds. He is a college student and could have really used that money at school. So be sure you know what …   more ›
