Township manager Jerry Andree says facility still is far from a done deal.
Plans are in the infancy stage for the Pittsburgh Penguins to partner with UPMC on a cutting edge performance center and practice rink in Cranberry. "It's really going to be a one-of-the-kind in the country," said Penguins spokesman Tom McMillan. The proposed 150,000 square foot complex would be located in the Cranberry Woods business park off Route 228—near the newly-opened Hilton Garden Inn—and offer hockey-related training and injury treatment and prevention. McMillan said the facility would be similar in nature to the UPMC sports performance complex on Pittsburgh's South Side, which is used by the Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh and includes sports medicine, practice and training facilities With its attachment to an NHL team …

Sidney Crosby came back to hockey in a big way Monday night after a 10-month hiatus.
A certain amount of luck and a random act of kindness landed me a seat exactly one row behind the Penguin bench at Monday night’s big game. And this was not just any hockey game, as we all know. Monday night marked the epic return of Sid the Kid—the great Sidney Crosby—after a 10-month absence spawned by a severe head injury. Did that just happen? Did we just see that? Was Sidney Crosby seriously two feet away from me? Wow. Oh, wow.” Bear with me. We’re going to get through this. I’ll take it from the top. On Friday, I …

The Washington Capitals edge out the Pittsburgh Penguins to win 3-1.
Rudy and Andy Plese burst into cheers after Penguins center Evgeni Malkin scored an early first goal for Pittsburgh. No doubt, the father-son excitement inside Marroni's Lounge in Leetsdale -- where the party included free pork, kraut and pierogi – resonated Saturday night with thousands of other electrified Penguins fans. More than 40,000 Pens fans were estimated in attendance at the NHL Winter Classic in Heinz Field, all anticipating a Pens victory in the nighttime hockey showdown against the Washington Capitals. The annual outdoor event, part of the regular-season schedule, was postponed until 8 p.m. to avoid rainy weather. Despite a delay, an occasional drizzle resulted in wet conditions. The Capitals overcame the elements and …
