Allegheny County Division of Veteran Services will hold a town hall meeting for women veterans from the Sewickley area and other parts of the county from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Soldiers and Sailors Hall at 4141 Fifth Ave., Oakland. Employers have also been invited to discuss potential employment opportunities in the region. Keynote speakers include Dr. Patricia Hayes, chief consultant patient care for the Veterans Health Administration, who will speak about issues surrounding women veterans’ health. Lt. Col. Michele R. Leetsdale Council appoints new officers; other boards change meeting schedules.
At the start of every new year, government bodies hold annual reorganization meetings to swear-in newly elected members, name board officers, set meeting schedules and conduct other business. Leetsdale's new council moved to make the most changes in 2012. In Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting, Leetsdale Council appointed Joseph McGurk president and Wes James vice president. Council voted to dissolve the administrative positions of manager, senior clerk and junior clerk. Manager Paul Scimio and junior clerk Sandy Bajsec were removed from their positions. Tuesday night's Leetsdale Council meeting lasted from approximately 7 p.m. to 7:01 p.m., just long enough for a call to order and then an immediate adjournment. Only two council members were present, which wasn't enough for a quorum to conduct a meeting, according to state law. Councilmen Mike Bajsec and Wes James were the two board members present, and borough manager Paul Scimio was also in attendance. Three members of the community were also in attendance. On the slate for discussion were several financial issues, including the $2,162,710 proposed budget for 2012.
