Other events remain on schedule for Saturday.
The snowy weather isn't just causing bad road conditions. Quaker Valley School District and Sewickley Academy have canceled all activities and athletics for Friday evening due to the inclement weather. Quaker Valley students had an early dismissal today. Students taking the SATs at North Allegheny tomorrow morning are asked to check the College Board website and the North Allegheny website in case of a cancelation. Quaker Valley also reminds high school students to monitor local news stations or the district website for cancellation information. The middle school Open House Celebration remains on schedule from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. The community is invited to tour the newly renovated school. The event includes student …

Middle school students collect more than a ton of food for the Center for Hope.
It took nearly a dozen Quaker Valley Middle School students and some parents to carry 45 laundry baskets and 25 boxes filled with food into the Center for Hope in Ambridge. The seventh-graders loaded up a truck at the middle school and delivered the food Tuesday after collecting a record number of donations during the eight-day food drive supporting those less fortunate. “I think this was one of our best turnouts ever,” said seventh-grader Bearett Tarris. “Normally, we don’t get this much.” “I think people were more motivated to bring in the cans,” seventh-grader Maria Beatty added. Sue Otto, executive director of the Center for Hope, said many food pantries see donations around the Thanksgiving holiday, but are sometimes forgotten …

Students in the Lower School and Middle School return Wednesday. Senior School students returned Tuesday.
Sewickley Academy students in the Lower School and Middle School returned to class Wednesday morning following summer break. Returning students were greeted with the familiar faces of teachers and classmates on the first day of school, though they were also greeted with some changes. While the bus turnaround was not open yet, parents who dropped kids off in front of Alumni Gym and Hansen Library encountered new traffic patterns. They were also met with a lush green space that was completed over the summer as part of the ongoing campus improvement project. Senior School students returned to class Tuesday morning.
