Quaker Valley Seniors Lead Quakers into the WPIAL Final Four

Senior Nelson Westwood nets career high 20 in QV upset win.

Senior Nelson Westwood saved a great performance for last on Saturday and Quaker Valley boys basketball is headed to the WPIAL Final Four.   Westwood, who all season filled the role of QV’s top defender and assist leader, played the role of go-to scorer.   He poured in a career-high 20 points in addition to an overall great floor game to lead QV in the 62-61 upset victory. “We knew we were going to get our chances, and luckily we took advantage when the opportunities arose,” Westwood said.   But #3 seed Seton La Salle did not go without a fight. QV Boys Cap Comeback with Thrilling 53-48 Victory in Playoffs

Quaker Valley played against Riverside at Moon Area High School. The team faces Seton LaSalle next.

After an 18-4 season that earned Quaker Valley a #6 seed in the WPIAL playoffs, their season was in peril against #13 Riverside Wednesday night after three and a half quarters at Moon Area High School.   Down eight points, the Quaker Valley seniors knew what needed to be done.   “We’ve been in that situation before," said QV Senior Forward Burke Moser.  "We are a young team, but Nelly (Senior Guard Nelson Westwood) and I won five playoff games last year together.  I think that we weren’t ready for our careers to end.” After Coach Mike Mastroianni called a timeout, QV turned up its defensive pressure and forced several quick turnovers.
