Sewickley Fans Deflated Over Pens Loss

The Washington Capitals edge out the Pittsburgh Penguins to win 3-1.

Rudy and Andy Plese burst into cheers after Penguins center Evgeni Malkin scored an early first goal for Pittsburgh. No doubt, the father-son excitement inside Marroni's Lounge in Leetsdale -- where the party included free pork, kraut and pierogi – resonated Saturday night with thousands of other electrified Penguins fans. More than 40,000 Pens fans were estimated in attendance at the NHL Winter Classic in Heinz Field, all anticipating a Pens victory in the nighttime hockey showdown against the Washington Capitals. The annual outdoor event, part of the regular-season schedule, was postponed until 8 p.m. to avoid rainy weather. Despite a delay, an occasional drizzle resulted in wet conditions.
