Two People Killed in Vehicle Crash on Route 65

The crash happened when a car skidded sideways into the path of another vehicle, according to WTAE-TV.

WTAE is reporting that two people were killed and two others injured after a car skidded sideways into the path of another vehicle early today on Route 65 in Ben Avon. The Beaver County Times identified the deceased as 19-year-old David Michael Mooney and 22-year-old Christopher Michael Lantzy, both of New Brighton. Ohio Township Police Chief Norbert Miklos told WTAE one car carrying the two crossed into the other lane and into the path of another oncoming vehicle. Investigators believe speed, bald tires and wet roads played a factor.  Two were killed and one injured in the first car. Sewickley Man Accused of Stealing Donation Jars Meant for Charity

Police say the Walnut Street resident took donation jars meant for cancer patients and area volunteer fire departments. Thefts took place on Neville Island, Scott Township and Peters Township.

A Sewickley man arrested this week is accused of stealing charitable donation jars from several businesses across the Pittsburgh area. Police say the jars contained loose change to help cancer patients and area volunteer fire departments. Ohio Township police Chief Norbert Micklos said they arrested Michael Coyle, 33, of Sewickley, after he allegedly took the donation jar at a 7-Eleven on Neville Island on Jan. 20. Ohio Township police, who patrol Neville Island, charged him with theft and receiving stolen property. But Micklos said Coyle also confessed to similar thefts in Scott Township and Peters Township. Scott Township police said a donation box was stolen from the counter at the Panera Bread along Greentree Road. The theft happened …

Elderly Motorist Taken to Hospital After Aleppo Crash

Ohio Township police said 86-year-old Fred Degroot's vehicle sideswiped a Catepillar construction vehicle.

An 86-year-old Sewickley man was transported to Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital Monday after his car sideswiped a construction vehicle in Aleppo Township. Ohio Township police reported that the driver, Fred Degroot Jr., 86, of Sewickley, suffered minor injuries in the crash.  The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. while Degroot's car traveled down the 900 block of Glen Mitchell Road in Aleppo. Police said a man operating a Catepillar pavement roller was also going down the road, traveling halfway on the berm and the road. Police said the roller did not have any lights on making it hard for Degroot to see it in the rainy conditions. Degroot's car sideswiped the roller and forced it into a hillside. Sewickley Hills Man Charged with Home Burglaries

A Sewickley Hills man is facing theft-related charges accused of stealing from his next door neighbor’s home and his landlord in Sewickley Heights. David Lewandowski, 33, of Hilltop Lane, was arraigned Wednesday and placed in Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 straight bond, $5,000 for each offense. Sewickley Heights police charged Lewandowski with burglary, criminal trespass,  theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.  Ohio Township police, which patrols Sewickley Hills, charged him with two counts burglary and criminal trespass, and one count each of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property. Sewickley Woman in Two-Car Crash Died of Trauma

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office ruled 20-year-old's death an accident.

An autopsy shows a Sewickley woman killed in a car crash Sunday died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and trunk, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office. Tess Raynovich, 20, of Sewickley, was fatally injured following a two-car crash at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Ohio Township. She was later pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. at Allegheny General Hospital. Her death has been ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said Tuesday. Ohio Township police said Raynovich's car crossed into an opposing lane on Lowries Run Road and collided with another vehicle near the Green Valley Golf Course. Raynovich's vehicle was struck directly on the passenger side, police said.  Police said wet road conditions appeared to play…

Trio Accused in Sewickley Hills Jewelry Theft Heads to Court

The three charged with felony counts are scheduled to appear in district court.

Three people accused of stealing jewelry from a Sewickley Hills residence are scheduled to appear today in court on felony charges. Ohio Township police have charged Christopher Hatton, 18, of Pittsburgh, Justin Lively, 18, of Center Township, 21, of Freedom, and Amanda Salamone, with felony counts of receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy. Lively is also charged with felony theft. Police said a Sewickley Hills resident called July 9 to report four pieces of her jewelry missing. Police said the jewelry was taken during the time frame that several people had come to the home to visit the victim’s son.  Police said Hatton, Lively and Salamone were caught on surveillance video attempting to sell a ring July 10 at Barkan Buy …

Moon Police Charge Aleppo Man with Vehicle Thefts

Police said Craig Moore stole several items, including GPS devices, DVDs and tools.

Moon Police said an Aleppo Township man admitted to entering several unlocked vehicles last week in Moon.  Craig Anthony Moore, 27, is charged with four counts of theft from a motor vehicle and four counts of nighttime loitering or prowling in connection with Wednesday's thefts.  Moore, whom Ohio Township Police also charged with stealing a vehicle, admitted to police on Friday that he entered at least 10 vehicles near Scottsdale Drive and Spring Run Road Extension.  Police have recovered several items in his home that residents had reported stolen, including GPS devices, DVDs and tools.  Moore told police that he stole a car Wednesday in Aleppo Township after getting into an argument with his girlfriend. Local Police to Purchase Bulletproof Vests with Help from Federal Grant

Leetsdale, Sewickley Heights and Ohio Township police receive grant money through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bulletproof Vest Partnership program.

Leetsdale, Sewickley Heights and Ohio Township police are among 315 police jurisdictions in the state that received grants through the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2011 Bulletproof Vest Partnership program, U.S. Rep Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, announced Wednesday. The federal grants reimburse the departments for a portion of the cost to help local law enforcement purchase bulletproof vests. Sewickley Heights Police Chief Herb Ford said the grant money would provide the department with a 50-percent match on the cost of three vests. Sewickley Heights was granted $1,125 in funds.
