Nearby: North Allegheny Crushes Coatesville to Win State PIAA Championship Title

The Tigers jump out to an early 14-0 lead and never look back. The Tigers went on to win 63-28.

It was a show along the lines of a script that Coatesville High School head coach Matt Ortega and his Red Raiders had seen before. Take the opening possession of the game, mix some run plays with a couple of timely passes and before you know it, you're celebrating in the end zone. Then when you strip the ball from the opposing team on its first possession and dart 80 yards down the sideline for a touchdown with less than six minutes expired, you have a 14-0 lead and all of the momentum that is so vital in big games. This time, however, in the PIAA AAAA state championship game the team with the 14-point lead wasn’t Coatesville. Harriton Tennis Comes Up Short In States Against Sewickley Academy

The Panthers have dominated this season.

The ride home was mixed with a heavy dose of winter and a lot of reflection. The Harriton girls’ tennis team accomplished a great many things this season, like an 11th straight District 1 Class AA championship, another trip to the PIAA Class AA state championship and the hopes of an eighth straight PIAA state championship. But the Rams’ run for that eighth straight fell into a buzzsaw, with Sewickley Academy. The Panthers ran roughshod over every other team in District 7 this season and brought its string of victories intact to the Hershey Racquet Club on Saturday. There, Sewickley Academy brought the Rams’ incredible run to a screeching halt, shutting out the Harriton girls 4-0 in the state semifinals. SA defeated the defending state …
