Peaches and Thumper Are a Sweet Pair

They came to Animal Friends together after their owner could no longer care for them.

Peaches and Thumper are a sweet, wonderful pair looking for their forever home. They came to Animal Friends together after their owner could no longer care for them. Peaches and Thumper are bonded. This means they are very close and need to go to a home together. But don't think that means they are exactly alike!  Peaches, the sweet, adventurous bunny of the two, enjoys digging in his litter box and tossing his toys around. Peaches is an enthusatic chewer and even nibbled on his previous owner’s jeans when he was little. Make sure to give him lots of toys to play with and chew so your pants stay safe! Peaches lived with both dogs and cats in his previous home and got along with the cats perfectly. He even took naps with them! The dogs, …

Patch Pet: Sun Sun is an Active Anatolian Shepherd Mix

He would make a great walking or jogging partner for an active, on-the-go family.

Sun Sun is a high energy kind of guy. He likes to walk, run, jump, play, chase and just be active! He would make a great walking or jogging partner for an active, on-the-go family. He's a 3-year-old neutered male, tan and black Anatolian Shepherd mix. He is a social guy and likes to be around people. He loves to chase and play with balls. They are his favorite toy! We feel Sun Sun would do best in a dog-experienced, adult only home because young children might not be able to handle his “paws-on” play style. He also does not like to be hugged tightly or handled excessively. Sun Sun would like to be the only animal in the house, so that you can spend your time playing with just him. Round up your extra tennis balls and come visit Sun Sun. He…

I've had Sun Sun out before and he's simply a FANTASTIC dog! He has such an enjoyment for life - you just can't help but smile and laugh when you're around him. And his looks are so unique, you're guaranteed to get a lot of "what kind of dog is that, he's beautiful?" remarks when you're out with him. He is active when outside, but he also will enjoy your company and affection at the end of the …   more ›

Patch Pets: Primo is Worth the Attention He Needs

Primo basks in the gentle, encouraging touch of volunteers, which is a far cry from life in the basement he was rescued from.

You sometimes hear about homes that are considered “fixer-uppers.” They make wonderful, meaningful projects for new owners to pour their love and personalities into. Well, Primo is a fixer-upper--one with a sweet grin and cute little ears. He's more than worth the attention he needs. Primo has come a long way since he was rescued and bought to Animal Friends. Finally, he basks in the gentle, encouraging touch of our volunteers…which is a far cry from life in the basement he was rescued from. Right now this frightened dog is motivated by food. He loves his Kibble. With some coaxing and training, you’ll be rewarded for giving this little guy a new life. He deserves it after all he’s been through. We’d like to see him move into to a quiet, …

Patch Pets: Snoops is a Charming Chow Mix

Snoops would thrive in an adult-only home where he can be the king of the castle

Are you looking for a low-maintenance, independent canine companion? If so, meet Snoops, a charming 10-year-old Chow mix awaiting his forever home here at Animal Friends. Snoops was adopted from Animal Friends as a small pup, but made his way back here when his family moved and could not take him with them.  Like most Chows, Snoops is an intelligent and independent dog, and is highly curious of his surroundings. He is quite smart and has already mastered several basic dog skills, such as “sit,” “paw,” and housetraining. Snoops walks beautifully on leash and never pulls or jumps while enjoying his strolls outside. He also enjoys a good romp outside, especially if a tennis ball is involved! Typical of his Chow background, Snoops isn’t fond …

Patch Pets: You’ll Have a Best Friend with Sourdough

When he's in 'lap cat mode,' Sourdough simply turns into sweet bread.

We use the terms “affectionate” and “playful” a lot when describing our pets. But take those two words and multiply them by 10 and you’ll get an idea about our pal Sourdough. This cat is beyond friendly. He’ll rub up against your ankles when you enter a room to greet you and when you reach towards him, he’ll lunge forward to headbutt and rub your hand. When he's in "lap cat mode," Sourdough simply turns into sweet bread (hence his name!). You’ll have a best friend with this chipper and slightly stout cat. So, if you’re looking for the fun-loving and warmhearted spirit of a dog, but only have room for a cat, Sourdough is the cat for you. Click here to watch his video! Then come meet him at Animal Friends! Sourdough has been neutered, …

Patch Pet: Willie the Weimaraner is Friendly and Affectionate

During his training sessions, Animal Friends volunteers discovered that Willie loves peanut butter.

Willie the Weimaraner is looking for a special someone to take him home. Willie is a very active kind of guy and needs a family who will keep up with him. He loves long walks and hikes in the park. (He loves to bird watch, too!) He also loves car rides! Some time to run around outside in a fenced area would make Willie a very happy dog.   Willie is incredibly affectionate and is very friendly. Let him impress you with the commands he knows now and rest assured that Willie will learn many more under your care. He is very smart and is very food motivated. We discovered during his training sessions that Willie loves peanut butter! We would like to have Willie’s new family to have breed experience with Weimaraners and know that Willie needs a …

Patch Pets: Bandit is Looking for a Quiet Home

If you have been looking for love in all the wrong places, come to Animal Friends and meet Bandit.

Meet Bandit, our own master of disguise. A casual look might reveal an empty cage. Do you see only a pillowcase and a few toys? Look closer! Our shy little Bandit may be that lump under the cat bed. This black-and-white striped beauty has eyes the color of spring-green leaves. Earn her trust, and she will roll over, around and upside down in a squirm-fest of affectionate appreciation. Two hands may be needed, as she can't seem to get enough of your love. Bandit was found as a stray and taken in by a family, but ended up at Animal Friends because of an owners allergies. Somewhere along the line, Bandit was declawed.  Her toy preferences have not yet been established, but she's been giving our volunteers lots of love. A quiet home will …

Show Us Your Photos from Take Your Dog to Work Day

The observance on June 22 celebrates dogs as companions and encourages their adoption.

For those of us with pets who work at Patch, every day is Take Your Dog (or Cat) to Work Day. We are lucky enough to do a bulk of our work from home, meaning more time to spend with our dogs and cats. Our pets share our home offices with us, sometimes curling up near the computers on our desks and, other times, flipping our hands off the keyboards in an effort to get us to pay attention to them. That's one reason we try to help our readers find their lost pets and run stories in hopes of finding forever homes for dogs and cats in local shelters. So, did you take your dog to work on Friday? If so, upload a photo to share with us. We'd love to see it! First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International's Take Your Dog To Work Day was created…

Patch Pets: Coco Sue Wants to Meet You

This boxer is housebroken, takes her treats softly, knows her name and the commands sit, run and get your toy.

The Boxer is one of the canine world's characters and 2-year-old Coco Sue is no exception! She loves attention and when being petted, her docked tail wags a mile a minute. Coco is very playful and energetic and when left to run freely in our play yards, she will "burst" out into the yard and run at full speed from end to end making several laps in no time at all. Her concept of exercise seems to be that life is to be lived at speed. Coco Sue loves all types of toys, especially chasing balls and would make a great running partner. Coco Sue recently spent some time in a foster home where she easily bonded with her foster mom and preferred to stay close by her throughout the day. She slept beside the bed at night and went to work with her …

Squirrel Likes Chasing Tennis Balls and Long Walks

She doesn't mind some dogs, so if you have one in your home already, she'd definitely like to meet him or her first.

Squirrel is a gorgeous young lady with soft shiny fur! Just like her namesake, Squirrel loves to run and play. She is an active girl who loves to go for walks! She's very friendly and sociable with everyone she meets when she is out with our volunteers.  Whether chasing tennis balls or going for a long walk, she would be an ideal match for an active family looking for a perfect four-footed companion to join in the fun. Typical for her breed, she can be somewhat independent and aloof at times, but definitely remembers her friends and gets very excited when you approach her kennel. Squirrel is not too fond of cats, so she would prefer that there were none in her forever home. She doesn't mind some dogs, so if you have one in your home …
