President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden defeat challengers Republican Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in the 2012 presidential election.
President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 p.m. EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan will be on hand today in Moon Township to speak before supporters at a campaign rally. A few hundred supporters are gathering at the Atlantic Aviation hangar on Horizon Drive in the township. Ryan is set to speak at 10:15 a.m. Ryan will head to Ohio later in the day for his next campaign stop. Local Democratic leaders, including Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, also have gathered nearby on Lindbergh Drive in Moon for a press conference, in an effort to counter the GOP's morning rally. GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will be in Moon on Saturday—and so will local Democratic leaders.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, a Democrat, will hold a press conference on Lindbergh Drive in Moon Township, countering Paul Ryan's Saturday GOP campaign stop at the nearby Atlantic Aviation hangar. Fitzgerald will be joined by Braddock Mayor John Fetterman and county labor council president Jack Shea on Saturday morning at the War Memorial Fountain at the corner of Lindbergh and Memorial drives. The 2012 race for the White House is coming to Moon. GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will appear Saturday in Moon Township for a campaign rally. Billy Pitman, spokesman for the Republican National Committee, confirmed that the event will begin at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Atlantic Aviation hangar at 300 Horizon Drive in Moon, just outside Pittsburgh International Airport. Doors open at 8:15. All attendees at the event will go through airport-like security before being admitted. Cameras are allowed, but attendees are asked to not bring sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids or signs, according to the announcement. Candidate for Congress Keith Rothfus is scheduled to address the delegates Tuesday at the Republican National Convention. Rothfus, of Sewickley, was originally scheduled to speak Monday, but the slate of scheduled events was cancelled Monday due to Tropical Storm Isaac, which is forecast to pass through Florida through Tuesday. Rothfus is challenging U.S. Rep. Mark Critz in November for the new 12th Legislative District. According to a report on Rothfus' website, his five-minute speech will focus mainly on healthcare reform, specifically repealing the Affordable Care Act.
