Petitions were presented to the board in opposition of plans to purchase and demolish three Beaver Street homes for a high school drop-off zone.
More than 200 district residents signed a petition that was submitted to the Quaker Valley School Board at Tuesday night's legislative meeting. Leetsdale District Judge Robert Ford presented the petition, which states that residents object to Quaker Valley's proposed plan to buy and demolish three homes adjacent to the high school. Ford was joined by about a dozen residents who attended the meeting with concerns about plans to purchase neighborhood properties to alleviate traffic issues near the high school. Conceptual drawings presented to the school board in March show plans to build dedicated bus and car drop-off areas for students. Sewickley Valley candidates looking to run for an open seat in the primary election can pick up a petition.
Petitions are now available for potential candidates planning to run for office in the May 17 primary election. Petitions are available through the Allegheny County Elections Division. Candidates cannot begin circulating the petitions until Feb. 15 and must submit them on March 8. Nominating petitions can be obtained from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the county office building at 542 Forbes Ave. in Downtown Pittsburgh. The elections division is on the sixth floor of the building.
