Dressed in their best, Quaker Valley students took the stage for the annual promenade in the high school auditorium before heading to the Embassy Suites in Moon to dance the night away at prom, which had the theme “A Night in Versailles.” Sierra Perlik was crowned the prom queen at the start of the promenade. This year's Mr. QV is Johnathan Roppo, who won the annual Mr. QV pageant held on Friday, May 10. Sewickley Patch was there Friday to capture photos of the gorgeously turned out guys and gals as they headed to the annual rite of passage, but we want to see your photos too. Quaker Valley High School's Anything Goes is nominated for eight Gene Kelly Awards. Senior Rachael Houser is nominated for the role of Reno Sweeney. Rachael was also nominated for Best Actress last year for her role of Sarah in “Guys and Dolls.” Also nominated is Peter Heres, sophomore, as Best Supporting Actor for his role of Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Katie Manuel, junior, is nominated as Best Supporting Actress for the role of Erma. The Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater recognizes and encourages musical theater and arts education, according to the CLO website. A Quaker Valley High School senior has signed a letter of intent to compete in cross country at Southern New Hampshire University, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II school in the Northeast-10 Conference. Josh Szymanski has been awarded an athletic scholarship, SNHU’s Presidential Scholarship and he was accepted to the university’s honors program. Josh is a four-year member of the Quaker Valley cross country and track teams. He helped lead the Quakers to three WPIAL cross country team championships and a PIAA state championship in 2011. Individually, he is a three-time qualifier for the PIAA state championships and two-time medalist at the WPIAL cross country finals. SNHU’s cross country team is coached by Joanne Dow, …

Rebecca Silverstein was one of six area high school seniors awarded a scholarship from the Blackwood Theater Organ Society.
Rebecca Silverstein, who plays the flute at Quaker Valley High School, has been awarded a scholarship from the Blackwood Theatre Organ Society, the group said in a statement. Silverstein was one of six area high school seniors awarded a 2013 scholarship. The Blackwood Theater Organ Society is a not-for-profit organization created to encourage students to pursue instrumental music performance careers. Over the past 13 years, the society has awarded more than $201,000 in scholarships to high school seniors planning to pursue an instrumental music performance degree in college. A Quaker Valley High School tennis standout has signed a letter of intent to continue competing at the collegiate level. Spencer Caravaggio will attend Division 1 Duquesne University. She signed her letter of intent on April 17. Spencer helped lead the girls’ tennis team to first place finishes in the MAC tournament all four years. In individual play, she was crowned WPIAL champ and PIAA runner-up in both her sophomore and senior years. She placed third in WPIAL competition as a freshman and junior. With a career record of 129-10, Spencer holds the Quaker Valley High School record for total wins in girls’ tennis. Spencer lives in Aleppo Township with her parents Harry and Kay Caravaggio. One of these ladies and one of the gentlemen will be crowned Quaker Valley High School's prom queen and king.
Quaker Valley High School has announced the 2013 prom court. Candidates for prom queen are four seniors Morgan Felt, Courtney Kroner, Sierra Perlik and Rachel Silverstein. The 11 seniors competing for the title of Mr. QV are: Levi Bowers, Rocco Brown, Ryan Garbee, Roy Hadfield, Andy House, Jack McGarry, Burke Moser, Dante Piccolo, Jake Pilewicz, Johnathan Roppo and Stephen Wei. The annual Mr. QV pageant begins at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10 in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Sponsored by the National Honor Society, proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. 'U.S. News and World Report' released its 2013 high school rankings today. Find out where Quaker Valley stands in the state and nationally.
The coveted U.S. News and World Report rankings of the best public high schools in America released today place Quaker Valley High School at the top. The annual list ranks Quaker Valley at No. 14 among Pennsylvania's 687 high schools and 645th out of more than 21,000 public high schools nationwide. Schools are evaluated based on overall student performance on state tests, Advanced Placement tests and International Baccalaureate exams; rankings also take into account how well students educate black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students, according to a release from U.S. News. Quaker Valley High School will present the classic musical from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13, and it's not too late to buy tickets. Tickets will be sold today in the high school gym lobby from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday at the same time and place. You can download the ticket order form online.
