Students in grades 6 through 8 have been finding their lockers and touring the new school this week before taking off for the holiday break.
There were plenty of "oohs" and "ahhs" to go around as Quaker Valley Middle School students made their way through the halls of their brand new school building. From the size of the school to the comfort of new chairs, students who entered the $26.5 million renovations for the first time Tuesday were altogether pleased. Some even snapped cell phone and camera photos to capture it all. "It's really different," said Franzi Nace, a seventh-grade student. "I feel like I'm going to get lost." "The chairs are just awesome. They bounce back and forth," added Travis Wiehe, a seventh grader, who also liked the hooks on the side of the desks made for laptops. Although the new and improved Quaker Valley Middle School won't be ready when students return for the new school year Sept. 4, district residents can still catch an early glimpse of the ongoing progress. School officials on Monday toured the three-story building, which is in the midst of extensive renovations in Sewickley. Tim Glancy, the project's general contractor, said the renovations are moving along with a completion date set for Nov. 30. Students officially start classes Jan. 7 in the building. The state senator also went with Quaker Valley administrators on a tour of the school building.
State Senator John Pippy participated Friday morning in a ceremonial ground breaking of the Integrated Arts wing of the Quaker Valley Middle School. Pippy, R-Moon, helped the district secure a $250,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to support the new arts and technology section at the middle school. He was able view the plans and put on a hard hat to tour the building with administrators during his visit to the middle school, which is currently under renovation. Pippy said it was helpful that the district had an innovative plan in place, when it came to securing the funding. "I think it's great," he said, ifollowing the tour. Who are you people I mean QV is amazing just stop talking about it that way and Ambridge is not a bad place I know a lot of kids that go to Ambridge and they are good kids and educated to. I am a QV student and I dont feel like I am being affected by this I would rather live in Ambridge if QV wasn't around.   more ›
