PA House Designates Tuesday as World Asthma Day

State Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Beaver and Allegheny, sponsored the resolution.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives unanimously adopted a resolution designating Tuesday, May 7 as World Asthma Day in Pennsylvania. “World Asthma Day is important because it increases awareness about asthma and the medical complications associated with it,” said state Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Ambridge,  who sponsored the resolution. His district includes Bell Acres, Leetsdale and Leet Township. “Besides raising awareness about asthma, World Asthma Day also raises awareness about the many resources available to the public to help manage the affliction.”  This year's theme for World Asthma Day is "You Can Control Your Asthma," with an aim to spread the word that, with proper management, asthma control is achievable in the vast majority of …

Election Results: Matzie Defeats Coder, Retains PA House Seat

Incumbent state Rep. Rob Matzie receives 57.3 percent of the vote to win the 16th District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, according to unofficial results.

Democrat incumbent state Rep. Robert Matzie fended off a challenge from Republican Kathleen Coder Tuesday in his bid for re-election to the 16th District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Coder was in high spirits earlier in the night whle surrounded by supporters at her election party at the Pizza Roma in Sewickley, where she awaited the results.  In the end, Matzie, of Ambridge, won 15,160 votes, or 57.3 percent of those cast. Coder, of Bellevue, garnered 11,298 votes, or 42.7 percent, according to unofficial results. Matzie was first elected to the House in 2008. Robert Matzie and Kathleen Coder are on the ballot for the 16th House District, which includes Leetsdale, Leet Township and Bell Acres, along with other communities in Allegheny and Beaver counties.

Democratic incumbent Robert Matzie and Republican challenger Kathleen Coder both offer reasons for claiming to be the best choice to serve residents of the 16th House District. Kathleen Coder, 53, of Bellevue, served four years as Bellevue Council president. She is also the founder of Inta-Great, a company that serves as a catalyst for leadership development among private companies, churches, nonprofit organizations and schools. Matzie, 44, of Ambridge, was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2008. Prior to his election he served as mayor of Ambridge, and worked as a state Senate staffer for 14 years. Legislator Loses Bet to Wear Pink Boa on House Floor

State Reps. Rob Matzie and Brandon Neuman made a bet Friday stipulating that the loser wear a pink feather boa on the House floor.

Bright pink feather boas aren’t usually part of a legislator’s professional wardrobe, but this fall, state Rep. Brandon Neuman is making sure that a fellow lawmaker tries on the look. State Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Ambridge, lost a bet last week against Neuman, D-North Strabane, when “Neuman’s Crew” won this year’s Take a Swing at Breast Cancer homerun derby event held by the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. “The deal was that the loser had to wear the pink boa on the House floor and be recognized, and during that recognition, acknowledge the accomplishments of the Breast Cancer Coalition,” Neuman said Monday. Coder Defeats Angus in Republican 16th District Race

Kathleen Coder wins the Republican nomination and will challenge State Rep. Rob Matzie in the general election.

Bellevue resident Kathleen Coder defeated Jeremy Angus Tuesday for the Republican nomination in the race for the 16th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She will face Democratic State Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Ambridge, who ran unchallenged on the Democratic primary ballot. Matzie received 2,858 votes, according to unofficial results. Coder said running the campaign was a lot of work and that she is proud of the results. She congratulated Angus on a job well done.  "Jeremy did a great job, and I just feel like we did a good job representing the Republican Party. Election 2012: Matzie Puts Focus on Job Creation, Education and Infrastructure

Matzie said some of his top priorities are education, job creation and infrastructure, including transportation.

Incumbent Rob Matzie, 43, is running unopposed in Tuesday's primary for the Democratic nomination in the 16th District of the Pennsylvania State House. Kathleen Coder of Bellevue and Jeremy Angus of Harmony Township, Beaver County, are vying for the Republican nomination to unseat Matzie in the November election. The 16th District in Allegheny County includes Crescent, Leet and Ross townships, Bell Acres, Bellevue, Franklin Park, and Leetsdale, along with Ambridge, Baden, Aliquippa, Economy, Harmony and Conway in Beaver County.
